The surgery is open Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 6.30pm. Morning and evening surgeries for the GP's, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistant are by appointment only.

Reception Desk 08:30 - 18:30

Due to the exceptional numbers of telephone calls the practice is receiving at 08:00 in the mornings, we will now dedicate all our reception team to manage the telephone calls to avoid any delay in waiting times where possible. Therefore the main reception desk will now open at 08:30 Monday to Friday.

Please use the self Check-In Screen to let us know you have arrived in practice for your appointment. If you have a medical emergency whilst in practice or need urgent assistance - please ring the bell at the Reception Desk and a member of the team will assist you.

Appointments at the Practice

We have continued face to face appointments with patients throughout the Covid-19 (Coronvirus) Pandemic and we continue to do so where needed. However initial assessment is via telephone to ensure that you are dealt with in the safest and most appropriate way.

Morning Appointments

Oakenhall Medical Practice provides GP assessments over the telephone. If you have an issue that you feel, can no longer wait another day, please telephone the practice (as soon as you can after 8am on 0115 963 3511 - Option 1).The receptionist will ask for some information on the issue you are experiencing and will arrange for the GP to telephone you to see how we can best deal with your request. Patients who are seriously unwell and call after 10:30 will be assessed by the On call Doctor.

Please let the Receptionist know if you have any Communication, Information or Support needs: such as hearing or visual loss, British Sign Language or Interpreter, for which you find it difficult to use the phone.

Please advise the staff if you have a problem for which you require emergency advice.

Evening appointments can be made in advance by telephone (0115 963 3511 - Option 1) at 8am. Please note evening appointments are intended for patients who wish to arrange a routine appointment in advance, if you wish to arrange an appointment for that day, please ring from 8am for a morning appointment which are available every day Monday to Friday.

It is advisable to confirm that the doctor you wish to see is on duty, particularly during holiday periods. There may be circumstances in which you are asked to see an alternative doctor as some changes are inevitable at various times.

To ensure equal access to appointments not all appointments are available to be booked online, therefore, if you are unable to book a suitable appointment, please telephone the practice to see which other appointments are available.

Oakenhall Medical Practice now offers routine advance appointment booking Monday to Friday mornings between 7.30 am and 8.00 am with a GP, Practice Nurse, Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Assistant and Phlebotomist (appointment for a blood test).

You can now book routine GP and Nurse appointments in the evening, at weekends and over bank holidays in your local area.

Pre-bookable appointments are available Monday-Friday, 6.30pm-8pm, plus weekends and bank holidays and you can be seen by a GP, Nurse or Healthcare Assistant.

Medical Emergencies

For medical emergencies, please contact the practice at any time on 0115 963 3511 - Option 2 and you will be able to speak to a receptionist, who will assist you in your enquiry.

Telephone Consultations
If you require a telephone consultation, which can be given briefly over the telephone by the doctor or Nurse Practitioner, please ring from 8am to speak to a receptionist, who will assist you.

Confidentiality in the Surgery

If you wish to discuss something of a confidential nature with the surgery staff, please inform a member of staff.

When the GP Surgery is Closed

Outside normal surgery hours (evenings, weekends and bank holidays) emergency cover for the practice is provided by NEMS Community Benefit Services Ltd Out of Hours service. The Out of Hours service provides medical care for patients that do not need Emergency Department Care. It is a service that is led by a range of clinical staff such as GPs, Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Emergency Care Practitioners.

This service is for problems which cannot wait until the next available surgery. You will be required to provide full information about your problem and will be expected if required to attend Platform One Practice (based on Station Street, Nottingham) if necessary. Advice may also be given if attending for a face to face appointment is not deemed to be required.

During out of hours you should contact the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it is not a life threatening situation. Outside of normal practice opening hours (18:30 - 08:00 for weekdays, weekends, bank holidays and during training events) the practice will deliver the following telephone message " Your practice is now closed. If you have a medical emergency, please hang up and re-dial 999 immediately. For all other enquiries, please ring 111. Thank you"

Urgent Care Centre in Nottingham

The CityCare NHS Urgent Care Centre is based at Seaton House, London Road, Nottingham. NG2 4LA.

The NHS Urgent Care Centre will offer assessment and treatment for health conditions that are urgent but non life-threatening such as:

Minor burns and scalds, minor head injury with no loss of consciousness, skin infections and animal bites, suspected broken bones, sprains (X-ray available), eye infections and minor eye injuries.

The Centre is not appropriate for: Non-urgent health problems that could be seen by your GP or a Pharmacist/routine services such as blood tests or suture ('stitches') removal

The service is open every day between 7am and 9pm, with no appointment needed.

You can call 0115 8838500 for directions and current waiting time, but medical advice over the telephone is not provided.

Patients who have a minor illness or wound dressing services at the weekend, should contact Oakenhall Medical Practice (Telephone 0115 963 3511 Monday - Friday) between the hours of 8am to 6.30pm or call NHS 111 (Monday - Friday or at weekends) between the hours of 6.30pm to 8am, if you want to talk about your symptoms over the telephone.

An NHS dental nurse is available on-site that can provide free advice on dental problems however consultation with the Dentist is chargeable. The Dental Nurse is available from 8.30am - 6pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 12.30pm saturday and Bank Holidays.

Your local pharmacy can also offer you a range of services, including free expert and confidential advice including treatment for very minor illness and injuries including colds, eczema, hay fever, aches and pains.and medications to relieve the symptoms of minor ailments.

Emergency Care
A&E is for serious and life-threatening emergencies only.

Chaperones/Carers
When seen by a clinician you have a right to a chaperone at all times. Please ask at reception before your appointment and this will be arranged.

Support During your Consultation - Interpreter
Please let a member of the Practice Team know if you have any communication, information or support needs during your clinician appointment or on accessing the practice. Such as an Interpreter, large print, easy read, Braille, an Advocate or Portable Hearing Induction Loop. Please provide the practice with advanced notice of your requirement, in order for the service to be booked. Your appointment time may be limited by the availability of this service.

Dental Appointments
If you have a urgent dental problem your should arrange a dental appointment. If you have a regular dentist, you should telephone them to arrange an urgent appointment.

Wednesday (Reception Desk): Practice Staff Management Updates/Training (12:30 - 13:30)

In order for all Practice Staff to receive essential training and practice management updates, the Reception Desk will be closed every Wednesday for one hour.

A receptionist will be available to answer the telephone and to provide assistance with any medical emergency.
